Candidate Help

Preparing your Curriculum Vitae

A good CV, which presents your experience in the best light, is clearly an invaluable tool in your search for a new position. However, we frequently see CVs that do not do justice to the writer. Too often insufficient detail is given about relevant information whilst inappropriate weight is given to matters which are relatively unimportant. When deciding whether to interview candidates most employers will spend only a few minutes (or even seconds) considering each CV so a well-drafted document is essential.

If you require any assistance with the layout, content or structure of your CV, call your consultant who will be able to offer help and advice.

A guide to successful interviews.

One of the most frustrating situations is to see a candidate attend an interview with the necessary skills for the role, but not perform well at interview. Many of these problems can be removed through detailed preparation for an interview. Results have continually demonstrated that those candidates who fully prepare for an interview stand a far higher chance of achieving success.

Obviously there will always be a certain amount of luck involved in succeeding at interview and the outcome will, to some extent, depend on the chemistry between the interviewer and the interviewee. However, there are some rules to follow which should take much of the fear and uncertainty out of the process.

Above all, there is one golden rule: first impressions count.

This may seem a trite observation, but our consultants who interview every day can confirm its truth. The tone for the whole interview can be set within the first few seconds and the rest of the meeting should be spent confirming a good impression, not dispelling a bad one.
